Vision and Roadmap

Last Updated: March 13, 2026

This roadmap represents our current vision and may change at any time without notice. Nothing here constitutes a commitment or guarantee of future features.

Where We Are Going

Shimokitan started as a personal archive - a place to catalog the anime, music, and games that matter. The long-term vision is to grow it into a living cultural index that anyone can contribute to, without losing the curatorial soul that makes it different from a list or a tracker.

Phase 0: Prelude

This is where we are now. The District gates are currently closed. We are actively curating the space to gather our first few artifacts before the platform opens to the public.

  • Initial launch of the coming-soon page.
  • Gathering and documenting the first set of cultural artifacts.

Phase 1: Foundation

When the gates open, the core archive will go live, featuring hand-curated artifacts, entities, and collections. All content will be managed internally. The primary focus is data structure, editorial quality, and the browsing experience.

  • Core artifact database with metadata, resources, and credits.
  • Entity profiles for creators, studios, and labels.
  • Curated collections organized by theme and mood.
  • Official media embeds and links to streaming platforms.

Phase 2: Community & Resonance

The opening of the District gates introduces the Resonance Engine. When we open the platform to community participation, we refuse to use engagement feeds or algorithms that prioritize the influencer. Instead, visibility is determined by collective, verified human depth.

  • Weighted Zines — Users contribute Zines instead of "likes." Zines carry "Heat" based on the author's earned reputation, defending the archive against bots and paid manipulation.
  • Deterministic Discovery — An artifact's visibility is the sum of the "Heat" from all its attached Zines. High-integrity human contributions move an artifact into the light.
  • Personal Shelves & Profiles — Tools for organizing your own artifact collection and building your curatorial reputation.

Revenue Model

Shimokitan currently operates without monetization. If revenue becomes necessary, potential options include affiliate partnerships with streaming services, premium features, voluntary support, or merchandise. Any monetization decisions will be made with transparency and community awareness.

What We Will Not Do

Some things are intentionally out of scope for Shimokitan:

  • We will not archive artists without their consent. We prioritize the quality of consent over the quantity of content.
  • We will not implement engagement-driven feeds. We operate a Zero-Prediction Policy—we will never 'guess' what you want to see based on watch time or scroll depth. Discovery should be intentional, not dopamine-driven.
  • We will not sell user data or implement intrusive advertising.
  • We will not chase scale at the expense of quality. Growth should follow curation, not the other way around.
  • We will not index or accept AI-generated media. Shimokitan is strictly an archive for human effort, human creators, and human culture.
