Copyright and Content Policy

Last Updated: March 13, 2026

1. Our Approach to Content

Shimokitan operates on a strict consent-first policy for recording artists and specific creators. We do not catalog or archive artists without their explicit permission. For generalized entries like anime and video games, we act as a curated archival index using publicly available metadata.

2. Consent-First Hosting

When an artist agrees to be archived, they may choose how their media is presented: via third-party embeds (like YouTube) or hosted directly on our infrastructure. Any playable media hosted by us is done so with explicit, documented consent from the rights holder.

We do not host, upload, or distribute playable copyrighted media without this explicit permission. If an artist chooses only to be embedded, we rely exclusively on embedding from platforms whose terms permit it.

3. Visual Media and Referential Use

For broader archival entries (anime, games), thumbnails and cover images are hosted on our infrastructure purely for contextual, referential, and archival purposes. We make no claim of ownership over these assets. For artists who grant us permission, hosting their avatar/profile imagery is a requirement for residency in the District.

4. Visual Media Attribution

All visual assets displayed on Shimokitan include source attribution where available. Because every artist profile signifies a mutual agreement and established consent, verified badges or indicators are not utilized or necessary on the platform.

5. Original Content

All original editorial content, UI design, graphics, and the "District" concept framework on Shimokitan are protected by copyright. Reproduction without written permission is prohibited.

6. Our Approach to Rights

Shimokitan's approach is designed to respect rights holders:

  • We embed content from platforms that authorize external embedding (per their Terms of Service)
  • We provide attribution and link directly to official distribution channels
  • We do not host or redistribute playable copyrighted media files
  • We respond promptly to rights holder concerns

If you are a rights holder and have questions about how we reference your work, please contact us at legal@shimokitan.live.

7. Visitor Responsibility

Shimokitan does not provide legal advice regarding copyright status, fair use, or licensing of indexed content. Visitors are responsible for their own use of linked materials.

8. Content Removal Requests

If you are a copyright owner or authorized agent and believe that material on Shimokitan infringes your copyright, you may submit a removal request. Please include the following information:

  • Identification of the copyrighted work.
  • Identification of the material on Shimokitan (e.g., a URL).

9. Counter-Notification

If you believe that material was removed or restricted in error, you may submit a counter-notification to legal@shimokitan.live. Your counter-notification should include: (1) identification of the material that was removed and its location before removal; (2) a statement, under declaration of truthfulness, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or restricted as a result of mistake or misidentification; (3) your name, address, and contact information; (4) a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the courts in your place of residence (or the Republic of Indonesia if you reside outside Indonesia); and (5) your physical or electronic signature.

10. Voluntary Content Review

Shimokitan periodically reviews indexed content and may proactively remove or restrict access to materials that we reasonably believe to infringe on third-party rights or violate our content policies.

11. Repeat Infringers

Shimokitan reserves the right to delist content from sources that repeatedly generate valid infringement claims.
